Paper Party!

The first wedding anniversary is traditionally celebrated with gifts of paper so the boy and I had a paper party last night where people came in costumes made of paper. It was awesome! I was a paper jellyfish, the boy was some kind of bizarre caterpillar creature and our friends' costumes were way beyond what we had expected: Sarah made a ballgown from a Financial Times, Dave came with a huge origami crane hat made from Metros, Kate came as our wedding album with lots of photos from our wedding and Jase came in a golden jacket a la Friday Night Project covered in paper money with pictures of us on it! I was incredibly impressed with and touched by the amount of effort our friends made.

I had bought some origami paper to make fun things with and only ended up making a bunny and a mouse. Perhaps some origami jewellery is on the cards...

NEW shrinky animal children brooches

I have been very busy making shrinky badges of some of my animal children illustrations... my favourite is my squirrel girl but there are some more on my Etsy shop, like this cute fox girl.

I've also been doing some new illustrations of animal children in (extra) costumes which are not quite ready to go up on the shop, but will be done very soon - keep checking the Etsy shop, new items are added every day!

Lino Addiction

Well, first post!

Today I attended a print partay with some friends from art school, JK and Lisa. We ate cakes and jelly babies and carved lino blocks for the first time since we were at primary school while drinking tea and watching doves fluttering around their birdhouse beyond the kitchen window.

Although at uni I would have classed myself as a printmaker, since graduating 3 years ago I have not had much of a chance to do much printmaking so it was a lovely chance to sit around and do something I love. I made one print today, a favourite illustration of mine which was originally an etching...

Hello!

My name is Vixie and I am a Fine Art graduate living in London with my beautiful kitten Yoyo Razorclaw, and my lovely boyfriend James.

I recently left my job as a Learning Mentor and Maths Teacher to children with Special Educational Needs to concentrate on my creative side, and I now spend more time than is probably healthy in my little studio, chatting with Yoyo, eating biscuits, drinking tea, listening to Eurovision Song Contest CDs, drawing pictures of children dressed as animals and playing with glitter.

I collect snowglobes and anything beautifully tacky or covered in sparkles. My newest obsession is the British Royal Family, and there's plenty of tackiness in that, though no snowglobes of them as far as I have found - trust me, I've searched! I also love to collect Catholic Saints - and I do have one Catholic snowglobe in my collection, yay!

I own far too many notebooks and sketchpads, many of which are still empty. I am one of those people who hates making the first mark in a notebook in case it all goes horribly wrong and is ruined.

I like adventuring in Europe, and recently started learning Norwegian after visiting Oslo for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010. I have travelled to much of Europe in my quest to visit every Eurovision country, but there are still a fair few countries yet to tick off, and many more adventures to be had.

I've just started a new adventure in Roller Derby - my Fresh Meat training started in January 2013 so stick around and see how that goes!
