softies for mirabel

I read on MeetMeAtMikes about the Mirabel Foundation. The Foundation is based in Australia, and supports children who are affected by parental substance abuse, as well as the childrens' parents and extended family.

It was a pretty tough thing to read about, but it's something that I would like to support.

A call for donations of handmade soft toys has been made, in a campaign called Softies For Mirabel. The toys will be exhibited in Melbourne and on the Softies For Mirabel online gallery, after which they will all be gathered together and each toy will be paired with a child companion.

As far as I could see, there weren't many rules for donations -

"Toys can be knitted, crocheted or sewn. They do not have to be super dooper professional looking. They just have to be made with care and love and the sort of thing a child would want to buddy up with. Do make sure it's not going to fall apart or lose its stuffing, though. No one likes to lose their stuffing!"

There are a few links to some free patterns on the blog post here, and I'm going to see if I can find some different animals as well...

I'm thinking 'woodland animals' - foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits and squirrels! And perhaps a narwhal or two just for good measure!

Would anyone like to join me in toy-making for charity?
