I ♥ treasury features

As busy as I often am making my own pretty things, it is nice to take a break every now and then and look through gorgeous lists of Etsy treasuries for inspiration.

Oooh, such tempting pretty things! I love seeing peoples' interpretations of a particular theme/colour/concept, and it's even nicer when you come across treasuries that feature some of your own items - it warms me inside to think that out of the hundreds of items of every colour/subject possibly, they chose something of mine to make it into their carefully chosen selection of 16 items!

Here are some of my most recent favourites:

have you seen any super cute treasuries recently?

investigation: how many birds can you get away with in one outfit?

So: being "on trend" might involve wearing one or two pieces with a theme, right? Well what if you wanted to be all on trend? Would wearing clothes/accessories all in the same theme be mega awesome or just ridiculous?

I've sketched an approximation of a chart to help us decide...

1 or 2 birds = on trend
3 or 4 birds = complementarily on trend
5 or 6 birds = a little bit keen
7 or 8 birds = getting a wee bit silly
9 birds or above = possibly excessive

...but then there's a glitch in the results and once you hit 21 you're back to awesome!?

Oh look at that, I even have an example of a 21 bird-ed outfit!
Coincidence? Um... no.

What birds do we have here then?

~~~
Sadly, I only own a handful of these items myself, so I imagine that would only get me into the "a bit keen" range... more birds needed, methinks!
must have: flamingo satchel
This pretty satchel popped up in an email from Oliver Bonas this morning...
♥♥♥ possibly the most amazing satchel in the world ever - it has flamingoes on it! ♥♥♥
Here's how I might style it if I were lucky enough to own one:
There's something about pink, beige and grey together that I can't get enough of at the moment. Such a pretty combination of colours, and perfect to go from winter to spring without going super bright.
Do you like the pairing of pink and grey?
must have: unicorns, get on my feeeeeeeet!
I saw these amazing unicorn slippers the other day and immediately added them to my wishlist. As awesome as they are though, I don't think I'd be able to resist wearing them out in public - and it got me wondering what other fun unicorn shoes might be out there...
Do you have any unicorn shoes?
Fancy any of these lovelies?
the official assigning of flower fairies
When I was about 5 years old my family "assigned" me one of Cicily Mary Barker's Flower Fairies. All children born into the family are given the sets of Flower Fairies books, so this was quite normal to my mind, and just a part of everyones' childhood.
It soon became evident which Flower Fairy each of the children would be - though this was somewhat based on looks rather than preference of flowers or even seasons. I was given the blackberry fairy, as she had a chubby-cheeked face and wild mass of curly hair, just like I did at that age. There are three of us in the family very similar in age, and after I was given blackberry, Clare was given celandine and James was given acorn.
not exactly the nicest choice of fairy for a 5 year old...
I remember after having had "my" Flower Fairy for a little while I was given another one by my mum - the pink clover fairy. I don't think it was ever decided which of the two I would have, so for my entire life I've had two, and for every birthday and Christmas since I have received at least one gift relating to either of those two fairies. I have quite the collection, as you can imagine.
So apparently, it's just my family who do this (?) - and I kinda always just assumed that everyone did it, and that everyone knew who "their" fairy was, but I have recently discovered, much to my upset, that this is not the case.
Upon asking my boyfriend which fairy he had as a child, the look of befuddlement was enough to make me realise this was not a thing that families did, it was just a thing that my family did. I wouldn't say I was crushed, but I couldn't hide my obvious upset regarding this revelation, and I'm not even sure why I was so a) surprised or b) upset by it.
So this isn't something everyone does - so what? Surely that makes it all the more special because we do it - like a family tradition. In a way that makes it more special and I'm glad I was born into the kind of family who does do stuff like that. I can't wait for more children to be born into the family and to help assign them their own Flower Fairies, and maybe if they're lucky they can even help choose their own.
Alas, I've not seen any pink clovers yet this year, but I'm keeping my eye out for them!
In the meantime there are plenty of other pretty clover goodies to look at...
Bit of a long shot, but is this something any of your families did?
Do any of you have a Flower Fairy who you think of as "yours"?
must have: prettiness for the walls
We've lived in our lovely little flat for very nearly a year - and despite having all that time to think about how we want to decorate, we've been pretty slack and done very little. Sure, the walls of the living room are painted, and we even put up a shelf, but I'm not sure that constitutes "decorating".
Whilst perusing my Etsy Favourites recently, I came across a number of star-themed artworks, which I think would look just lovely against the light grey walls - what do you think?
And in case stars ain't your thang, I have plenty more pretties on my list...
What do you think of my little selection?
Would you like any of them for your own walls?
owwwwwwwwwww!
I don't think I knew what pain was before today when I bruised my coccyx during Fresh Meat.
I'm in agony, but these pretty kitties are helping to soothe the pain:
sparkly butterfly party bag fillers
I have been a very busy bee so far this week - my lovely friend Caroline of Funk E Angels has asked me to make some sparkly butterflies to use in her awesome handmade party bags.
I'm ever so slightly disappointed that such awesome party bags weren't available when I was little - sure, we had the plastic ones with cheap toys, a box of sweeties and a slice of birthday cake, but Caroline's are handmade to a specific theme and filled with fancy goodies - rather than foam bird gliders, clackers or maze puzzles!
She's putting together some incredibly girly party bags this week, and pink was the overall colour scheme... wanna see how I've been getting on?
some of the unfinished butterflies - and an unusually small amount of loose glitter!
What are your memories of party bags?
must have: collared shirts and lady ties
It must have been a full 20 minutes between my posting about the pretty gifties I would have bought myself had I not missed Bosses Day - and my actually purchasing one of them...
I decided almost immediately that I, in fact, needed that cat print lady tie and set about purchasing it with hopes it would arrive before my birthday... it only came a couple of days ago, but it was worth the wait - it's even more pretty in real life, and the wonderfully sweet Christine of Flapper Girl even sent me an extra one as a thank you! What a sweetie!
I cannot wait to put together some outfits to wear with these bad boys - and that requires some tops/dresses with collars...
I wish I had more of them now... here are some more of my favourites from Flapper Girl:
Any of those take your fancy?
Or do you already have a lady tie?
dragons are actually good
For quite a while now I've been reading the blog, Love The Liberry.
In it, four librarians share snippets of their daily interactions with customers at the library where they work... and it's amazing to hear the kinds of things people expect librarians to know/do. I often can't help but laugh out loud while reading it, much to the annoyance of Yoyo who is almost always asleep next to me.
A post entitled "Dragons" showed up in my feed the other week - and this is what it said:
A customer shared the following fact with me just now: "Dragons are actually good. They are like uncles to all of us."
It didn't say whether the commenter was a child or an adult, but either way I think it's just charming. Plus, dragons really are awesome... just take a looksy:
How do you feel about dragons?
Do you agree that they're actually good??
this is how my perfect birthday looks
Tomorrow is my birthday.
I'm not terribly good with birthdays, so I figured I'd pretty much just ignore it this year. I'll probably go out with the boy before heading home with a few friends for an evening of playing games, eating cake and generally being silly.
I thought I'd post a couple of ideas of my perfect birthday anyway though, so here goes:
