investigation: how many birds can you get away with in one outfit?

So: being "on trend" might involve wearing one or two pieces with a theme, right? Well what if you wanted to be all on trend? Would wearing clothes/accessories all in the same theme be mega awesome or just ridiculous?

I've sketched an approximation of a chart to help us decide...

1 or 2 birds = on trend
3 or 4 birds = complementarily on trend
5 or 6 birds = a little bit keen
7 or 8 birds = getting a wee bit silly
9 birds or above = possibly excessive

...but then there's a glitch in the results and once you hit 21 you're back to awesome!?

Oh look at that, I even have an example of a 21 bird-ed outfit!
Coincidence? Um... no.

There's something about pink, beige and grey together that I can't get enough of at the moment. Such a pretty combination of colours, and perfect to go from winter to spring without going super bright.

It must have been a full 20 minutes between my posting about the pretty gifties I would have bought myself had I not missed Bosses Day - and my actually purchasing one of them...

I decided almost immediately that I, in fact, needed that cat print lady tie and set about purchasing it with hopes it would arrive before my birthday... it only came a couple of days ago, but it was worth the wait - it's even more pretty in real life, and the wonderfully sweet Christine of Flapper Girl even sent me an extra one as a thank you! What a sweetie!

I cannot wait to put together some outfits to wear with these bad boys - and that requires some tops/dresses with collars...

Woohoo, the boy and I are off to Budapest for a few days of adventuring while he has some time off work. And it's almost my birthday, double awesome!

It's been a long time since I last went, and he's never been, so it'll be über exciting! Last time I was there it was the height of the summer, so this time will be slightly different... the highest temperature will be about 7°C, brrrrr.

must have: the White Berets of One Piece

Have any of you guys ever seen One Piece?

A few years ago I was super obsessed with it - I would watch at least a handful of episodes every night, and even organised an immense One Piece themed costume party - but just after episode 300 I just stopped watching it.

My life changed, became a bit harder, and I had different things on which I needed to concentrate. I took a side step, and my mini addiction to One Piece was something, along with a bunch of other bits and pieces, that kinda just got left behind.

Pretty much all of the story arcs in the show are amazing, but one of my absolute favourites is the Skypiea arc - and the Gods' Guards, the White Berets, are super cool! They are the guardians of Skypiea and have the most awesome cloud print uniform...

If I ever decide to cosplay a White Beret I think I would have to girlify the uniform somewhat... and something like this would be ace:

The only thing that's missing would be cloud print tights - how amazing would that be???

If you happen to be in Berlin any time soon, I recommend you head to the Circus Hostel - their underground bar, Goldman's, has its very own shrine to The Hoff...

Now I'm not quite crazy enough to have a whole shrine to the man, but I have to admit that it's not just Berliners who love The Hoff... and ever since spying this pic of him on the interwebs, I knew I had to have a Pop Phone...

...and now I have one of my very own! Woooooooohooooooooo! It's awesome!

So I was thinking... it's not weird to build your entire outfit around one accessory, right???

a wintery day spent at Cake & Bake

A grey blanket of clouds greeted me upon waking, and feeling decidedly wintery I put together the following outfit before setting out on a grand adventure...

Miss Kaz had received tickets to the Cake & Bake Show in Earl's Court for her birthday, and she took me along as her official photographer (!) and macaron enthusiast.

Here's a little of what we saw and got up to:

It's amazing how exhausting it can be to spend all day eating cake, playing with airbrushes and looking at pretty things...

I know I've been slacking on my icecream wardrobe posts somewhat, but I sincerely hope these pretty hedgehog goodies will make up for it...

For some inexplicable reason, the scratch resistant coating on my favourite glasses has suddenly begun to peel off, leaving the lenses ironically looking as though they're covered in scratches.

I've had these glasses for a good long time now, so perhaps it's time to get some new ones - and perhaps I should go for a different style...

I've ordered some plain glass pairs to try, so hopefully one of those will suit my round little face, else I will have to start my glasses quest all over again! It's taken long enough just finding these ones that I like!

umbrella print dresses

When I was little I had the most amazing wardrobe - my mum was forever knitting me cardigans and purses, and my nana used to make me smocking dresses every year. It was pretty ace.

One of my favourite dresses was a gorgeous shade of jungle green with a cute collar and it was covered in tiny multicoloured umbrellas. I can't find a picture of me wearing it anywhere in my family albums, but I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining it.

If you try searching for dresses with umbrellas on these days, you don't get a lot of choice. Here are the ones I found...

I have previously written in detail about my love of Eurovision and cardigans, but I feel sparkly things deserve a post or two all of their own for a change... and what better than to start with the most wonderful of sparkles - sequins.

For as long as I can remember I have loved sequins. I used to receive tiny boxes of Indian sequins in my stockings at Christmas, and rarely could I walk past local sari shops without pressing my nose to the windows, condensation forming as I drooled over the gorgeous sequin-adorned fabrics.

A teacher at my primary school, Mrs Jeffrey, wore the most beautiful saris, and I was oh so jealous of the beautiful silk wraps some of my friends wore to school on special occasions. And it really was only special occasions that one thought to wear sequins.

I know they're a wee bit showy, but I kinda wish I could wear sequins every day - even if it's just subtle. Or not - it's all good!

Oxfam's Big Bra Hunt

In the recent house move I was somewhat forced to de-clutter my wardrobe, which I managed to do with surprisingly few arguments with myself. Having said that, one area I was not so successful in sorting was the undergarments area. I'm sure I can't be the only girl with an overflowing drawer full of brassieres, many of which no longer fit or are just no longer worn, right?

I read this article on Women's View on News t'other day, and it reminded me that my obsession with undies really has to stop:

"According to the charity [Oxfam], British women have nearly £1.2 billion of unworn and forgotten bras, which could help provide valuable economic support to market traders in Senegal."

Zoe Ball supports Oxfam's Big Bra Hunt

Tonight I plan to go through every box of brassieres I own (yes, I have more than one drawers' worth...) and donate any unwanted ones to The Big Bra Hunt.

If you're a lady, perhaps you could go through your own undies drawer tonight and donate any unwanted items to help the cause? Oxfam aims to collect one million bras throughout April, so get rummaging!

belting up

For as long as I can remember, I have always been just between dress sizes. As well as annoyingly having very few clothes that fit properly, it means that my jeans are either so tight that I have to unbutton them after a meal, or so loose that they fall down.

Of course, the obvious solution would be to wear a belt. But belts are pretty boring, right? I've always thought belts were nothing more than trouser-holder-uppers, but recently I've started falling for their colourful, crystal-encrusted charms.

Look at some of these pretties! I'm going to start getting all Clarissa about my belting, and pair them with the most ludicrous things possible. Now I just need to buy them all...
