There are few things I like more than stationery. That might sound ridiculous, but for as long as I can remember I have adored it. Every Saturday morning as a child I would get £1 in pocket money, and the first thing I would do was ask my mum to take me down to my favourite shop - it wasn't a sweet shop, or a toy shop, I called it "the office shop" and it was a stationers.
In those days £1 went a long way - I could buy a flip notepad, like the ones detectives had, for that £1. Or I could get a micro fine liner to do tiny drawings, or a pack of brightly coloured stickers. More often than not I would buy a notepad or a sketchpad - there was just something so beautiful about empty paper, it was clean and pure and wonderful. There got to a stage when my mum had to ban me from buying any more notepads until I had used some of the ones I had in a drawer in my room, but I could never bring myself to make the first mark - I didn't want to sully the perfect pages.
It's been a lifetime of stationery love, and yet this year was the first year I discovered National Stationery Day! I thought I would share with you some of my favourite arty stationery items. If I were to show you all of my favourite stationery items, we'd be here a very.long.time.

Is there seriously a national stationery day?!? I feel I need a shopping trip to help celebrate the day :-)
I had forgotten all about those Uniball pens - everyone had them at school.
In view (on my messy desk)some highlights I can see include:
-a whole box of (unused) novelty post-its and tape
-2 boxes of Staedtler triplus fineliners (they were priced stupidly in Tesco years ago at about £1.50 for 10 pens so I had to stock up...)
- a tin of regular Caran D'Ache Water-soluble Pencils
- my Neighbours pen
- 5 unused notebooks of various origins that cannot be written in for fear of ruining the books forever
I like those uniball pens, they're really easy to write with which is important for someone with stupid hands like mine. I also had a pen called "Dr Grip" with a nice big fat grip for people with gammy joints. But I lost it.
These days I mostly use Muji pens because they're refillable.
I've always liked letter writing sets, and notebooks. For a while I went through a Japanese notebook phase.
I know, right! All I bought yesterday, stationery-wise, was jiffy bags. Boring! I need to get some pretties!
I am obsessed with those uniball pens, they are just perfect to write with, and the micro ones are pretty good to draw with too.
Hooray for stationery!
