Happy King Tutankhamun Day!

When I was about 9 years old I was really rather obsessed with Ancient Egypt.

I read dozens of books and learned how to write in hieroglyphs - then used that knowledge to write scores of secret notes (sadly no one could decipher them - not many 9 year olds can read hieroglyphs, it seemed), I memorised the names of all the gods and goddesses, drew pictures of Tutankhamun's mask on my exercise books and sometimes made tiny ornate matchbox sarcophaguses, just for fun.

This obsession only lasted a couple of years, though Ancient Egypt still fascinates me, and the Egyptians remain my favourite ancient civilization.

Yesterday marked the 89th anniversary of the discovery of King Tut's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. So I thought I would make a pretty Egyptian treasury to commemorate. Treasuries are useful like that.

Were the Egyptians your favourite ancient civilization? If not, who were?

This is a wonderful treasury! It may be 89 years since the discovery, but the treausury feels modern and innovative. I enjoyed browsing the great selection of items.
