You might think that okapis are related to zebras, with their pretty striped legs and all, but in fact they are more closely related to giraffes - their bodies being very similarly shaped, other than their necks being much shorter. Similarly to the giraffe, the okapi also has a long (roughly 30cm) bluey black tongue. Crazy mad.
When European explorers first reported the okapi's existence, calling it the 'African unicorn', their stories were not believed. It wasn't until a body was sent to London in 1901 that the okapi was formally recognised as a 'new' animal and named Okapia johnstoni after it's discoverer, the British explorer, Sir Harry Johnson.
Let's see what pretty okapi things we can find...

7 hellos:
Okapis are my favourite animals! But hardly anyone has heard of them, which is a bit sad because they're gorgeous!
Hooray! I'm so glad someone else knows about them, they are ace! I think we should do an okapi themed blog party sometime :) I really enjoyed putting those two outfits together!
I'm really liking the okapi outfits you put together especially the office one. I have heard of them but they are often overlooked, which is a shame. Thank you for reminding me of them! Xo
Hey Amy! I'm really glad! I'll have to see what other animal outfits I can come up with :)
I love the okapi outfits - particularly the office one! I think I could wear that to work for sure!
thanks for featuring my artwork! I love the okapi bottle stopper. And those outfits you assembled look really cool- I'd love to see someone dressed in one!
I'd really like to wear it to work and see how it goes down... I'm pretty sure no one would bat an eyelid!
