cross stitch in unexpected places

I recently came across this video of street embroidery in Berlin on Miss Cross Stitch's blog, and it got me thinking about how versatile cross stitch is and how decorative it can be, despite its simplicity.

No longer is cross stitch merely seen on samplers and handkerchiefs, it seems to be popping up everywhere at the moment...
